For ordinary gifts to an unmarried villager, the baseline is one per day and two per week, with the week resetting on Sunday. A birthday gift is allowed after the usual weekly allowance. Check the villager’s Gift Log and preferences before handing over an item; a disliked gift can reduce friendship.[1]

Build a repeatable gift-checking routine
- Check the calendar
The public calendar is on the front of Pierre’s General Store, to the left of the door. It shows the current season’s birthdays and festivals.[2]
- Check the person
Open the villager’s row in the Social tab to review the Gift Log. It records gifts and learned preferences; it is more useful than assuming every villager likes a broad item category.[1]
- Check the allowance
The Social tab’s checkboxes show weekly gifts. For the ordinary limit, track one gift per day and two before the Sunday reset.[1]
A concrete example: Leah and Salad
Leah’s reference page lists Salad as a loved gift. It also gives her birthday as Winter 23 and identifies Salad as available through cooking or the Stardrop Saloon. This is a villager-specific example, not a universal recommendation.[3]
If you want a simple routine, pick a small number of villagers and check an obtainable preference for each. Keep those items separate from produce you intend to sell. That organization is an editorial suggestion; it does not change any friendship rules.
Understand birthdays and special exceptions
Ordinary birthday gifts receive an eightfold friendship modifier. The multiplier affects negative reactions as well, so verify the preference before giving something just because it is available.[1]
Spouses have different gifting rules. Stardrop Tea also has special friendship and gift-limit behavior, so the ordinary two-per-week limit is not an exhaustive rule for every gift.[1]
