The quick answer

Without attachments, a basic Sprinkler waters four cardinal neighbors, a Quality Sprinkler waters eight surrounding tiles, and an Iridium Sprinkler waters the 24 other tiles of a 5-by-5 square. Their crafting recipes unlock at Farming levels 2, 6 and 9 respectively.[1][2][3]

Read the footprint before placing crops

Original coverage diagram: four cardinal tiles for a basic sprinkler, eight neighbors for quality and 24 surrounding tiles for iridium; the center is equipment

The center position is equipment, not an additional crop tile. A 3-by-3 Quality layout therefore supplies eight crop spaces, not nine; an Iridium layout supplies 24, not 25. These counts assume tillable tiles and no range attachments.[1][2][3]

Compare the standard crafting recipes

CompareFarming levelIngredientsWatered tiles
Sprinkler2[1]1 copper bar + 1 iron bar[1]4, cardinal neighbors only[1]
Quality Sprinkler6[2]1 iron bar + 1 gold bar + 1 refined quartz[2]8, surrounding 3×3 ring[2]
Iridium Sprinkler9[3]1 gold bar + 1 iridium bar + 1 battery pack[3]24, surrounding 5×5 ring[3]

Check the setup after installation

  1. Map the crop positions

Mark the center for the device and count only the surrounding positions in the relevant footprint. Keep walks and access to crops in mind.[1][2][3]

  2. Check the ground

Sprinklers water tilled tiles in the morning, but do not work in Beach Farm sandy soil. Garden Pots also need another watering method. Check the actual farm terrain before relying on a footprint.[1][4]

  3. Handle the first day yourself

The automatic action is in the morning, so manually water newly planted crops when setting up after that action. Inspect the next morning before assuming the arrangement works.[1]

For an indoor growing plan, start with the greenhouse rules.
